I've just learned (from inerrant #Wikipedia) that Sol Kaplan, who also scored the episode "The Enemy Within," was blacklisted from Hollywood for refusing to cooperate with the House Committee on Un-American Activities.

"The Enemy Within" ALSO had a bitchin' soundtrack; it and "The Doomsday Machine" were dipped into a lot for later Star Trek incidental music.

anyway...hazel was committed to civil rights & even had her own telly programme, 'the hazel scott show'. it was axed when she appeared before the house un-american activities committee because she'd been a vocal opponent of mccarthyism & of racial segregation. 'to hell with this', she said (or, perhaps, something saltier), & she moved to paris until 1967.

Today in Labor History March 6, 1930: 100,000 people demonstrated for jobs in New York City. Demonstrations by unemployed workers demanding unemployment insurance occurred in virtually every major U.S. city. In New York, police attacked a crowd of 35,000. In Cleveland, 10,000 people battled police. In Detroit, the Communist Party organized an underemployment demonstration. Over 50,000 people showed up. Thousands took to the streets in Toledo, Flint and Pontiac. These demonstrations led to the creation of the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC), sponsored by Republican congressman Hamilton Fish, with the support of the American Federation of Labor, to investigate and quash radical activities.

Today in Labor History February 10, 1898: Marxist playwright Bertolt Brecht was born. Brecht was a doctor, poet and playwright. He fled the Nazis only to be persecuted in the U.S. by HUAC during the Cold War. He is most well-know for his play, “The Three Penny Opera.” He also wrote “Mother Courage and Her Children” and “The Days of the Commune,” about the Paris Commune. Additionally, he wrote poetry and composed the lyrics to many of the songs performed in his plays, like “Mack the Knife” and “Alabama Song” (AKA Whiskey Bar).

Is there something wrong with the original Hollywood Blacklist ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hollywood_blacklist ), refusing to employ people with certain political opinions, since it was about private companies doing what they thought was best for business?

(I do understand your point that there is a freedom of speech difference between laws and the actions of private parties.)
