Calling the Chengdu location of Worldcon a "mistake" is not a useful statement. That was the result of a vote by members of the World Science Fiction Society. There is no committee or executive who picks the location. It's a vote. I'm sure the (almost all Chinese) voters for Chengdu would disagree with you that it was an error.

FYI: I was on the Bid Commitee of the competing Winnipeg, Canada bid.

Looking over Best #Novel I've read one (Lattes & Legends) and definitely want to read another (The Spare Man which did have availability in the UK issues last time I looked IIRC - seems OK now though). A couple I might look into further and a couple I have no interest in really...

Let me tell you a cautionary tale.

Once upon a time, an enthusiastic young fan planned to use his Worldcon membership to nominate for the #Hugos. And he kept putting it off.

On the very last day, he said "I'll take a nap, and do it right after."

He didn't wake up in time.

And all his planning, and all the works he'd been excited to nominate, it was all for naught.

Today's the day to nominate for the #HugoAwards for 2023. If you haven't done it yet, don't keep delaying.

I haven't mentioned my Hugo fan art eligibility this year as I think I only have two eligible pieces!

But for what it's worth where they are. Both covers to the Journey Planet fanzine.

Apparently #Hugos voting is closing soon and I'd love it if anyone wanted to vote for my short story "Broken Blue". I don't have the massive following that some folk have so any help people give is vastly appreciated.

The story is built with many subtle patterns and recalls the legends of the fae and dryads, loss and longing, and the seasons of our lives. Plus an extra special good boy, whose name is also a subtle theme hint, wink wink.
