Human scale is a concept proposed by Oliver Sacks, a neurologist and writer, as a key idea for the future. It means we must preserve the human dimension in everything we do, from architecture to technology, from culture to nature. It also means that we have to respect our human needs and values and avoid becoming anonymous or alienated in a world that is too big, fast, or complex. themarginalian.org/2023/08/05/

Stumbled upon this post I wrote a few years ago (2020) about "small is beautiful" applied to architecture and web system development. Still love those ideas and concepts, will probably reuse this approach and my `tulip` framework for other projects.

8. BEAUTY
A place of high-quality ‘Baukultur’ is beautiful.

High-quality Baukultur* takes into account the sensory perception and understanding of the relationship between objects, spaces and people, increasing people’s life satisfaction and quality of life.

It emphasises the need for positive aesthetic appreciation and a fulfilling relationship between people and the place.

- From ‘Eight criteria for a high-quality Baukultur, Davos Baukultur Quality System’:
baukultur--production--storage
*The expression baukultur embodies the cultural value of a high-quality, socially integrated and sustainable built environment. Baukultur (pronounced baw-cool-tor) is both the ethos of creating an environment we want to live in, and the processes involved in its creation.

We must prioritize access and and human-powered over vehicular . We must prioritize human over corporate .

We must advance public which incentivizes living over vehicle miles travelled. We must rebuild our city and town centers to increase density of settlement.

The technologies we use to generate power are the last things we should be thinking about. There is no such thing as "" energy generation.

> The bird made it possible to make offerings without straining a family’s budget. In his 2010 paper in American Antiquity, Dueppen writes “chickens provided a means to maintain the rich spiritual life within a consciously reinvented egalitarian society without creating wealth differentials.” In other words, you didn’t need to be a rich cattle baron to maintain your connection with the gods.
