All Humans have loss aversion #psychology

A-holes go out of their way to try & insult people (they "enjoy" it). This isn't about them!

It takes #humility & patience to mitigate other folks' emotions when they feel that their social status is being threatened.

Humans, due to a fault of our own (maladaptation), feel offended when our illogical ideas are challenged; by those who are *not* intentionally trying to offend them (non-A-holes).

Feeling offence is a heuristic (quick reaction)

Perhaps the wax wings of Minos mythology were not solid wax. Perhaps they were wooden with wax for the surfaces, or straw/wax composite? Perhaps Icarus did not fly too high, but instead out from the cover of a passing cloud. Perhaps the sunlight heating weakened the wax matrix.

We too often outright discount the creativity & ingenuity of those who came before us. We tout ourselves as superior. We are not. We’ve much to learn.

When someone frustrates me, I feel less angry if I’m more humble. For example, when recall the circumstances in which I have done things that I regret and I realize that I don't know people's circumstances, I feel less angry and/or more compassionate.

Maybe that generalizes: in #diary entries about challenging encounters, indicators of humility predicted fewer indicators of anger.

I have found that here a few times when I have got my hand slapped for not adding #alttext to a photo (as I should have). It is up to each of us to accept the norms and community standards (#acceptance #humility #understanding #politeness #civildiscourse #love). As was the rule in my house growing up, we all need to try and follow this one. If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all. I for one am working hard to follow this one!
