Finally saw the Green Heron. It didn't seem all that pleased with all the attention, but it's only been back for a week...just wait until its friends show up. #birding #huntleymeadows
Rain is to start at sunrise, so no birding today. Here are a few shots from last Sunday. #birding #huntleymeadows
Lots of FOY birds this morning: Gray Catbird, Green Heron, and Red-eyed Vireo. The Green Heron cried and took off right before I got there. Here's an Osprey instead. #birding #huntleymeadows
Prothonotary Warbler and Common Yellowthroat are back at Huntley Meadows, and I managed to see one of each. Hearing and seeing the White-eyed Vireo, though, was a real treat #birding #huntleymeadows
Huh someone saw the same Palm Warbler but checked off "Palm Warbler (yellow)" on the eBird list and we all got a rare bird alert?! The same bird we saw on Sunday because they posted a photo. Like what kind of Palm Warbler is not yellow??? #birding #huntleymeadows
Also three Killdeer. A bit early for them. I heard them and thought I was crazy...Merlin picked them up, but Merlin also picked up a Prothonotary Warbler, which would have been two months too early #birding #huntleymeadows
The Wilson's Snipes are doing fine...at least a dozen of them today. #birding #huntleymeadows
Haha I said Snipes...yes there was another one hiding elsewhere #huntleymeadows #birding
A Wilson's Snipes hiding in front of the throngs of people looking for the elusive Wood Ducks (who flew in and quickly flew out) #huntleymeadows
Is it still an eBird "rare" bird if so many people were photographing them that they decided to fly to a shady spot? Two of three Blue-winged Teals at Huntley Meadows Park, near Hybla Valley, VA #huntleymeadows #birding
The Inept Birder would have been so proud (???) of me & my pictures of the Bald Eagle #worstbirdpic #huntleymeadows #birding

Those three Wilson's Snipes from a few summers ago have gotten busy. Spotted at least a dozen today in a patch of matted dead reeds that were just the right color. #birding #huntleymeadows
Time for another #worstbirdpic...damn dead leaves! Spring cannot come quickly enough #huntleymeadows #birding

Finally got close enough to a slow(er) Brown Creeper #birding #huntleymeadows
On this #NationalBirdDay I present to you my favorite bird, the Green Heron. Photo taken last summer. You will note that it is decidedly not green. #birding #huntleymeadows

If Sherman didn't believe we saw 6 Brown Creepers, how would he believe we saw 5-7 Wilson's Snipes in the morning mist? Here's what one looks like when the lighting was good, back in the summer #birding #huntleymeadows
