Longer term I’m interested in getting my amateur radio license to help access and share what I find to be a really scarce emergency information landscape; there was one volunteer run facebook group during #HurricaneFiona that was where I got all my information, and for the fires as well.
Immediate term I’m going to try to seek out at least what radio frequencies to tune into and will share what I learn as I go.
We can’t continue to be siloed through these events.
Hurricane Fiona tore down so many trees and branches in September. It’s nearly June and the cleanup continues. Massive holes in the ground where huge trees once stood are a common sight here.
Side note: I live in an area that isn’t supposed to have hurricanes. But here we are.

Lots of work done on the trails since the hurricane fucked all the trees
Stay safe in the #nsstorm folks.
We have taken down some outside lights that may blow about and get damaged.
Hoping the power stays on as we were without power nine days and internet for twelve after #HurricaneFiona (see pic of the morning after)
In June 1942, the tourist town of Weston, UK was bombed. They had to make a public request for tourists to stop coming because they were trying to clean up.
A few months ago, the city where I live was pummelled by the worst storm Canada has ever seen. Thousands of trees and power poles came down. Cruise ships still arrived within days. Annoyed tourists were asking volunteers why nothing was open.
Lesson: people never change.

The 2022 #AtlanticHurricaneSeason officially ended on November 30, but the impact of #HurricaneIan, #HurricaneNicole and #HurricaneFiona — which brought extensive damage to Florida’s and #PuertoRico, will continue to be felt long after the season is over. https://bit.ly/3VEqaZm

Extreme Weather Caused by #ClimateCrisis Threatens Puerto Rico’s Ability to Feed Itself
Puerto Ricans will likely spend this Christmas without their time-honored tradition of eating plantains with dinner, after Hurricane Fiona destroyed 80 percent of the island’s plantain and banana crops in September.

After #hurricanefiona we were without internet for 13 days as lines were on the ground and poles snapped. We had everything reattached and then the brush removal team managed to snag the cables and snap guide wires and rip equipment from the poles. Poor #eastlink line crews. Back you come again.
I dug up this photo of what used to be my gardens on the day after Fiona.
The front box was tomatoes in wire cages, all flattened.
My squash was in the box in behind, which you can't really see because of the bit of maple tree on top of it.
The storm brought down two big poplars in the background that used to cast shade over most of the property. Sad the big old trees are gone, but next year I can probably plant bigger gardens.
@Lynessence I will never forget those noises!

With our fallen trees after #hurricanefiona, why aren't we making #hugelkultur trend? Now I wish I had access to all those cut-up logs and branches.
Here's a very clear and helpful video. Now just need to get the lawn-loving hubby to give up some space.

(I had been doing the same thing with a mound of upturned sod on an unappreciated side of the yard, but sans logs/twigs, and didn't realize that this had a name. I was already halfway to hugelkulturing.)

To ease some of the hardship #HurricaneFiona caused tax filers, #FOMBPR approved @DptoHacienda's proposal to extend several tax filing deadlines to allow taxpayers more time to comply with their tax responsibilities, and aid & expedite the recovery.

So wild how this unelected colonial oversight board has the power to decide whether or not Puerto Rico's governor can access emergency reserve funds.

RT @FOMBPR
#FOMBR authorizes access to the Emergency Reserve for expenses related to the emergency response for #HurricaneFiona for an additional period of 15 days as requested by @GovPierluisi. FOMB will continue to support the govt. during this difficult time.
