Here’s a look at the Coachella Valley, days after #HurricaneHilary. Even though it was downgraded to a tropical storm (the first to make a major hit on Southern California in about 80 years) when it hit the valley, there was still widespread devastation. The desert can not handle minor rain, let alone the hours and hours of heavy rain and winds that pounded the area Sunday. #ClimateChange

This is Stanley the Broom. He's decades old. My father used him to clear out a flooding driveway during the nasty #ElNino storms of 1982-1983. Stanley did his duty again during the El Nino season of 1997-1998, helping my father sweep away overflowing drains. Yesterday, Stanley the Broom did his duty once more, sweeping away a flooding carport during #hurricanehilary. Some people inherit money or homes. I inherited Stanley the Broom. In the scheme of things, a priceless heirloom.
