#Idalia jumped up to a category 4 while I was asleep, though we only got the edge of it here. It was only projected to teach category 3 when I went to sleep. Throughout the day yesterday, Idalia continued to shift further north and west than had been expected the day before.

Last night was nothing nearly as scary as it was when #HurricaneIan hit last year, even though that was down to a category 1 when it reached us.

this spot was already eroding quite a bit before #HurricaneIan and the local conservation group had been planting and doing a lot of work to help it not erode so much. Then Ian really cleared it out.

10, 20 years ago this was a huge beach I used to walk to, swim, fish at. it's a small sliver now. it is what barrier islands do over time. they're transitory. constantly changing. probably not a great place to build permanent structures...

having water storage that is easily stackable and grab and go has been great for us. we've had to use them not just after #HurricaneIan but also for a few days when our city water supply was potentially contaminated. They're easy to carry onto a boat-- bil took one with him to the island on a zodiac after Ian so he would have water there. I was able to easily give one to a neighbor who ran out of water.

I had the dogs on lead and took them out front just as a car pulled up and stopped. The dogs immediately tense up at the unfamiliar vehicle, "storm recovery" magnets on the side of the car. The dogs bark as the driver gets out of the car. The driver motions at me and looks uncomfortable.

Me, "hi, we're not interested, have a good day."

They say, "hrumph!" and climb back into their car just to make a U turn and speed away. #HurricaneIan

today we had a new mailbox installed. our old one got destroyed by #HurricaneIan and we repaired it enough for mail to be delivered but opted to get a more sturdy one installed (using old dock pilings) since all of our neighbors with that style came through Ian ok. this is a very minor repair in the list of hurricane repairs.

We're getting closer to my having to do this year's hurricane prep. I do have to replace a bunch of stuff this year that we used last year.

Five months after #HurricaneIan the boat lift cover people contacted us with a quote.

Spouse, "that's fine, but can I request no sooner than 9 months?"

Spouse, "I don't want to get it installed in the middle of hurricane season just for it to get ripped off again."

BLC laughed! "yes, I'll put a note to delay if it comes available during hurricane season."

Amazing turnout after dozens showed up to sidewalk cleanup in Fort Myers Beach, Florida.

Dozen of volunteers showed up to sweep away sand from Fort Myers Beach sidewalk following the Beach Talk Radio cleanup event.

Volunteers known as the "Yellow Army" showed up with shovels and brooms at the Snug Harbor restaurant early Sunday morning. Volunteers were seen smiling and sweating as the path in front of them became clearer.
