@StillIRise1963 Already happening here in Houma LA. Surrounded by literal sugar cane fields and after #HurricaneIda the housing there was equal in prices to NOLA.
Ok I'm announcing fundraising for my family to get some help gathering a down payment for a house!
We're way closer than we were last time, last year. I'm starting now so it's not quite so last minute as last time.
Goal idk it would be absolutely fantastic to somehow get $10k together. Doubtful, but I'm gonna dare to dream.
Hey also my bday is this week! Consider it a bday gift to an aging (turning 35!) trans, queer, Indijewnous deep South activist! Any and every housing I've ever had I've helped and housed other queer/marginalized folks, and a stable place means even more resources I can offer. The current housing I'm in is still very damaged from 2021 #HurricaneIda and no timeline in sight for repair.

#FEMA will extend the deadline for claims related to #HurricaneIda by 90 days. This is a big win for the people of #Louisiana’s bayou parishes, especially those who live in remote locations, such as Grand Bayou Indian Village.

It took us over a year to get our home repaired after #HurricaneIda. We had the means to float many expenses and fight insurance on recoverables. We had the flexibility in our jobs to take phone calls and write emails.
I can’t imagine what the recovery process is like for people in remote communities like #GrandBayou who bore the brunt of the storm. These people desperately need #FEMA to extend their operations related to Ida in #Louisiana.

Another local institution has been restored after #HurricaneIda. River Region Drama Guild hosted it’s first event in over a year with record turn out. I’m so happy to see one more sign that our communities are healing.
Better yet, it’s great to see our community continuing to invest in #TheArts.

After a 3 year hiatus, the #Cajun dancing program is back at Allemands Elementary School in #StCharlesParish! The program originally was paused as part of COVID protocols. That pause was extended when #HurricaneIda wrecked the surrounding community, but a local para educator is planning to revive the program and even attempt to catch up kids who have since moved on to the local upper elementary school.
Such an important move for the #culture and #tradition of this #Louisiana bayou community.

#Louisiana’s Public Service Commission has decided to “only” approve $1.5 million of the $1.7 million requested in additional fees on #Entergy customers to cover costs related to #HurricaneIda. While I appreciate that this is the first time in decades that any portion of a “storm fee” request has been denied, this is simply not enough.
These “storm fees” encourage our public utilities to put off proactive maintenance in favor of simply increasing rates once the damage is done.

#Louisiana’s State Legislature is set to convene a special session to talk #insurance as many insurers have left the state or gone insolvent following #HurricaneIda. This is such an important issue for people of #SouthLouisiana who are facing stronger storms and reduced natural hurricane protection from storm surge.

Another good workday. Warm one for sure. Wherever you are today, be kind to others. Every person out there is “going through something” and many are struggling to deal with their problems, challenges, and demons. You can make a huge difference in their lives, and I bet you will find it makes a huge difference in your life too! Keep up the great work!

This story of people getting through their #HurricaneIda recovery only to be hit by a #Tornado is gut wrenching. I hope everyone here on #PoboySocial, in the #GNO area and across #Louisiana are doing alright this evening. It feels like we’ve had a rough go of it with weather lately...

The Louisiana coast loses about a football field of coastline every hour. For the community of Isle de Jean Charles, time was running out even before #HurricaneIda landed https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/on-the-louisiana-coast-an-indigenous-community-loses-homes-to-climate-change/

While all you climate-tards are blaming the hurricane on global warming, South Africa is experiencing record snowstorms.

Before any you climatefags blame the hurricane on global warming, reminder that extreme weather has actually been on the decline since the 1940s.
