#Louisiana will drop lawsuits against recipients of grants through the #RoadHome program launched in the wake of #HurricaneKatrina. In the rush to get money out to people, many ineligible homeowners were granted money or advised to use grant funds for ineligible repairs. In the years since, the state and federal government sought to recover “misused” funds, re-victimizing people who were just trying to get their lives back.

Now that we’re back home, I’m doing a little more research.

According to the clerk of court’s website, the courthouse was intentionally burned back in January of 2002. Interestingly, most of the documents from the courthouse were saved and moved elsewhere at that time, which actually likely saved them from destruction in 2005 when #HurricaneKatrina put much of the rest of the parish under 15 feet of water.
