Public buildings may not procure single serving coffee machines with capsules, or offer bottled / canned beverages, or have disposable cutlery.

But: the allowed heat transmission coefficent of building elements is so high that summer will turn rooms into ovens. They trust users to open windows to provide enough ventilation and cooling. They use wood pellets to heat water for a high temperature district heating system instead of having a low temperature installation.

Not sure if this is the right way to ask this question, but my house's air conditioning dropped my second story temperature from 78.8F to 74.5F in a time span of 8 hours. At the time outdoor temperature fell from 82F to 77F.

This doesn't seem very efficient to me, but I'm wondering if it's normal.

During the same time period, the first story of my house was brought from 77 F to 71 F.

Is it normal for #hvac to take this long?

Our 30 year old HVAC system died in the middle of our Kitchen Renovation. The latest heat wave finally killed it. Had to pause kitchen work for a couple of days to take care of it. We went from a SEER 12 AC compressor to a shiny new SEER2 19 heat pump. We should be ready for whatever climate change throws at us for a few more summers.

I made a thing!

As part of my ongoing air-exchange-based #HVAC project, I have an outdoor air quality sensor from #AmbientWeather (no sponsorship, I bought it). It's battery/solar powered, and that's fine... except for the part where that doesn't work here in the winter.

But since it plugs in to charge and keeps working when plugged in, winner winner chicken dinner, right?

NO! Because first you have to take the bottom off the case, then the charge plug sticks directly out from the bottom facing down, like a goddamn Apple Magic Mouse.

I can't fix the mouse, but I can fix _this_, and I have made a printable tray and rack system to let you use it that way. Enjoy!

I’d like a repair in the next couple months. My furnace shrieks like a were-lamb as it fires up in the winter. Its currently working fine, except the noise, is high efficiency if old, & is oversized for my space. The issue is likely a 50 cent ball bearing replacement. However the #hvac guys we’ve talked to thus far only want to sell & install new furnaces. Does anyone in #pdx actually do blower motor repair?

Have you ever seen what's going on in your AC's pipes? This is an old video of me messing around with the air conditioner parts. I connected the evaporator with transparent hoses. The liquid you see is isobutane. Needless to say, it's flammable, don't try this at home. I used EEV without a coil and a magnet as a manual metering device.

When I replaced my #HVAC system, I got a new thermostat as well (Nest), but it always read 4 or 5 degrees higher than my old thermostat. I figured it was wrong because it would read 78F and I thought there was no way it could be 78 because it felt so comfortable to me.

So I got a digital thermostat on Amazon, and you know what? It matches the temp on the Nest. So I guess my old thermostat was off.

As a disabled renter, I have been affected by this personally.
