I have a new node hosted by August Internet. It runs #I2P, #Yggdrasil, #Alfis and #Hyperboria / #Cjdns. Seems to me like Cjdns has a bug when peering with IPv6 addresses though.

@nonmateria Not sure if you are familiar with #JackVance's #speculativefiction, especially his #TheDyingEarth series. It is inspired by #ClarkAshtonSmith's stories of #Zothique & #Hyperboria. Smith was a much more open than either #HPLovecraft or #RobertEHoward. His artist fascination with other cultures & languages made him a #Xenophile in comparison to their #Xenophobia. He blended the #Lovecraft's #cosmichorror with a mix of #LordDunsany's ironic tone & the sensibility of #CharlesBaudelaire.

There are lots of alternatives to TLS out there. At the protocol layer, things such as #Yggdrasil and #ipsec can make things secure. #Yggdrasil, like @cjd 's #Hyperboria (#cjdns) before it, is an overlay network where every target IP is essentially a public key. #DNSSEC also helps here.

@humanetech @bhaugen @onepict Reading some of @kensanata and @aral 's words, and thinking of my own interest in #NNCP, #gopher, #Gemini, #IPFS, #Hyperboria, #Syncthing, etc., it sure seems like there is a small but growing effort to capture something that we once had in the Internet but have lost. It is difficult to put my arms around exactly what that "thing" is. Lack of centralized control? Community? Innovation at a scale individuals can participate? Whatever it is, I love these efforts.

Let's look at the tech. For data link and networking, of course there are #LoRA, and #XBee. #meshtastic is atop #LoRA. #Briar can form a #Bluetooth mesh. #NNCP is a powerful delay-tolerant network. #cjdns and #Hyperboria form mesh networks, optionally using the existing Internet as a backhaul; their goal is nothing less than replacing the Internet. #Tor of course provides some of this too, at a different layer.
