I think in general the fedizen population are all pro-openness. But what's at stake with an unbridled corporate takeover leads to asking the question:

I am old, and some of my meme-references have vanished from collective memory. The Dr. Katz show on Comedy Central in the late 1990s engraved one catchphrase in my brain: "That's how they getcha!" @xerz I agree. The article is mostly considering things at a superficial level, when you take a quick overview.

Vibrant new culture exists everywhere, but it is in niches and more out of the mainstream view. Which probably was always where these things started. They just have harder time to hit mainstream level, where it has become more of a grey goo. There's some good points in the article how #Hypercapitalism is doing everything to keep stuff the same, as long as money can be milked.

#Hypercapitalism is just to make clear that its capitalism run amok. Very obvious to anyone unless they want to distract from this fact. Maybe some hypothetical form of capitalism works. But we ain't having that.

For most of mankind's big problems a root-cause analysis ends up at the door of #Capitalism.
