I'm watching an old talk from #mathiasbuus creator of #dat, #hypercore and now #keet and #holepunch and it acts as a great intro to #p2p #distributed networks and also has a lot of references about #bittorrent and #piratebay.

My attempts to self-host a PDS didn't get very far, quite a lot of moving parts and not a lot of documentation (which is fair, it is still in beta)

Hey folks! The 2.0.0 release of #Agregore has been tagged and compiled! This features fixes for #MacOS, an upgraded #Hypercore-Protocol, and better support for #Gemini when loading it from #p2p protocols. This also involves an upgrade of Electron to 23 and an overhaul to using ESM for the #JavaScript back ends.

Just loaded my first #p2p site published to the new version of https://distributed.press with proper #ipfs #hypercore and #dnslink support!

The DNSLink stuff is a bit iffy for hypercore, but I'll be fixing that up tomorrow.

Now stuff can be published via Distributed Press, and viewed via @agregore

What's cool is that in addition to keeping your content online, you can easily configure it to set up DNS keys for you by delegating with an NS DNS entry for the `_dnslink` subdomain on your domain.

Hypercore: https://hypercore-protocol.org : Hypercore is a protocol and framework to build p2p applications. Keet is actually based on that, not sure about Cabal. More interesting for developers than end users. They have libraries to holepunch easily, swarm, etc.

I used Beaker Browser back when hypercore was still called dat.

Since the renaming, I've been trying to open every hyper:// url I came across with Beaker Browser and was consistently greeted with a "Site Not Found". It doesn't seem to be able to open dat:// urls either.

Does anybody have a working hyper:// url I can test with?

I like that it has domain names for identity, but the user can migrate to new domain names. Write some new auth/identity data in, keep going.
