#OpenSim is what we refer to independent sites which have adopted #SecondLife 's base code to create their own grid/universe.
Many of them are "closed" like Second Life, meaning you must log into an account on their site to connect.
Sites on #Hypergrid allow you to enter a special address in your world map in one grid & jump to another. The world map changes, your native inventory & contacts are unavailable but you're still you wearing your clothes.

I remember the announcement of a successful #Hypergrid test between #OpenSim and #SecondLife - I think it may have been on Pathfinder's old blog. Those were heady days.

@FeorieFrimon When #OpenSim first started doing #HyperGrid, #LindenLabs worked with OS developers to demonstrate that people could HG to and from #SecondLife and OpenSim. This, with certain limitations, seems to be the most sensible way for Linden Labs to allow SL instances.
I also know of a developer working to integrate mastodon into OpenSim. Easy Peasy. 🙂
