@abulling @znuh @wa7iut With “polls” the usual problem is that only people who want to respond will respond. In societies where you might be ostracized by adoring Putin, nobody adoring Putin will participate in the poll, or they will lie if pressed. On the other hand, in the societies where you won’t get slapped on the hand and Putin is not an immediate danger/problem, only people who feel strongly will participate. #hypothesis #biasinthedata

@Regor I did, but as Omnivore, #Hypothesis and #Kindle all had #Obsidian import plugins, I didn't really feel the need to have a third-party syncing service as well.

Indeed. But as time goes on that is less and less likely. We're steadily making progress in proving that aliens aren't anywhere near us, building up evidence that confirms the #RareEarthHypothesis and solving the #FermiParadox .
And Cixin Liu's #ThreeBodyProblem and #DarkForest #books and #hypothesis speculate that if interstellar aliens exist and they detect us they would immediately sterilize our solar system to prevent us developing AGI that might compete with theirs.

I think e.g. Jeli will let you tag slack messages for the timeline so you could do a #hypothesis tag. tricky bit is identifying them is judgement and synthesis, hard to learn, harder to teach

Musk has always been a vocal proponent of Nick Bostrom’s #simulation #hypothesis. What if he’s a true believer and also subscribes Eric Steinhart’s ”virtuous engineers” theory, that the engineers operating the simulation would re-run the simulation if they saw fascinating and unique results?

Is he, in effect, trying to resurrect himself by ”being as fascinating an unique” as possible, in the crude way he can imagine it? 🤔

Curious what folks are using for highlighting and #annotation? I've been using #Diigo for many years (10? 15?) and occasionally look for alternatives.

I use #Raindrop which offers some of the same functionality, I'm aware of #Hypothesis but appears a bit more limited than I'd like.

I've tried WorldBrain's #Memex in the past but it was never quite where I wanted and now appears to be pivoting.

Ideal solution is, of course, #OpenSource. 😃
