I run a "minimal" #Debian system based on #i3wm, but I'd like my laptop to suspend or shutdown when the battery power gets too low, to avoid running the battery right to zero. What is a reasonable to do this? #upower seems like it might be part of the answer, but it seems like it is mainly glue to provide non-root users the ability to suspend etc...

I've settled down a bit after an initial #distrohopping adventure ever since #ubuntu starting worrying me. Here's what I've settled down on now, after experimenting with different setups:

1. #opensuse #tumbleweed and #nixos on my primary and experimental laptops
2. #chezmoi to synchronize dotfiles
3. #nix #packagemanager to manage command line utilities across distros with #homemanager
4.i. #kdeplasma + #lattedock + #touchegg preferred on #opensuse
4.ii. #i3wm on #nixos

#i3 is very cool....

Galera vou confessar uma coisa, eu estava longe do i3wm por questões de usabilidade. Conclusão: como eu estava enganado, é um excelente Tiling WM, tá facilitando a minha vida e me dando muito mais produtividade!!!

Hello! I'm Laonye, a Brazilian #computerscience student
I'm a #linux nerd, #ttrpg newbie and currently trying to get my way around here.

I like learning new #languages, currently learning #italian. I speak #portuguese and #english

I use #archlinux as my development desktop, with #i3wm as my window manager

I have played a few #dnd campaigns, but #callofcthulhu, #cyberpunk and #witcher are my favorites systems

having been pretty harsh on #Gnome in the past, i've been giving it a fair shot over the last few days.. ..even with a bunch of custom keybindings, i still feel like i have to think about how i'm using my desktop more than when i'm using something more intuitive like #i3wm or #Xfce.. ..that being said, replacing #Nautilus with #Nemo and adding a few #extensions have made it a lot more usable.. ..the key extensions being Dash to Dock, Impatience and Workspace Switch Wraparound

For #i3 #i3wm users: if you need a confirmation prior to killing windows, add this to your config:

I really wanted to use the i3 window manager on my #Linux Mint, but it kept breaking everything.
I did a fresh install, but my background got permanently black, and then I couldn't use apps installed from flatpak for whatever reason.

I guess I'm staying on Cinnamon. 😅

After some testing I found out my potato rig is performing much better with #ghostbsd running #mate .
Nomadbsd is still a good choice for a persistent, portable BSD system, though.
Looking forward to set up #Freebsd with #i3wm, my daily window manager, but it will take more time and dedication.
Quite happy for now.

I have found a couple of tools (yabai and skhd) on a Mac that make it behave a bit like i3 WM on linux.
Thank god. I mean the Apple trackpads are great compared to all non-Apple ones, but I really am more at home in a keyboard based environment. Searching for the mouse cursor pulls you away from the thing you're trying to do.

gaps inner 8px # Distancia entre ventanas
gaps outer 2px # Distancia del borde de pantalla hacia ventana
