Han pasado ya par de semanas desde que hice este trabajo (y sigo en proceso de producción del video) pero este es un #ViernesDeEscritorio bastante especial.

Lo primero: Usé un kit de #iFixIt para cambiar el disco duro mecánico de mi #iMac de 2007 por una unidad SSD. Yo mismo hice el trabajo siguiendo las impecables instrucciones en la página.

Lo segundo: Finalmente tengo @fedora en esta iMac. El año pasado intenté instalarlo, pero una actualización en el Kernel rompió los drivers del WiFi (Apple y sus cosas). Esta vez, gracias al input de la comunidad, logré dar con una solución.

En fin, todo un logro a decir verdad.

I’m a heavy #Apple user, and I sometimes toot complaints about issues I experience.

Today, I’ll do the opposite.

In 2015, I bought a 27’ iMac. Today, while it’s not my primary driver, it’s still going strong. I’ve never had a Windows computer that was still usable after 8 years.

Several years ago, I hooked up an external SSD and made that my boot drive. As SSDs became increasingly mainstream, my 2015 iMac’s HDD felt sluggish. But, with the SSD, it’s great!

Thinking about self-hosting a few services such as gitlab and maybe my own website.

However the RaspberryPis I have to hand that I would normally use probably don't have the required horsepower so I'm thinking about using an old iMac and putting it in the DMZ on my network.

Any reason why that might be a stupid idea?
