Also saw a few Tettigoniids.
Tettigonia virdissima and a young unidentified one. I put it on #iNaturlist if you want to help!

Always fun to go #BlackLighting for #insects. Couple of new species for my #iNaturlist account

Drew a banner for our #CNC project today, gull looks more like a crow, butterfly is at a completely wrong angle, everything is messy, but I'm satisfied!

I always see mistletoes high up in trees and never thought about them much. But on Tuesday I walked past a fallen tree with mistletoes on it and after fighting my way through the branches to get close to it - it was in full bloom and had the most tiny but pretty flowers!

Are folks aware of best practices for using iNaturalist data to try and estimate relative (not absolute) abundances of species? I'm wondering about how much people have thought about the various biases? I'm interested in looking at two species that are phenotypically similar, both with thousands of reports and overlapping ranges. Nonetheless, I'm interested in whether they have different range-centers and distributions. Is there precedence for this or is it too fraught? Thanks!
A blue fly for #BlueMonday .
It's a #Syrphidae of the genus Eumerus. Spotted in 2013 but never seen it again! Insects are diversified but are to record!

I'm getting to the point where on my after-work walks in central Ohio I only keep finding more of the same lichens. Drove about 100 miles further south on Sunday and was rewarded with two new ones, both growing on the same rock.
red and green one (inat computer-vision thinks Psora pseudorussellii) : https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/146670392
orange and gold one (inat cv thinks Gyalolechia flavovirescens): https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/146670382
Can you spot the pyxine lichen in the first picture? What about the second one where I turned my new UV light on? 😁
Basically this lichen appears as a very bright yellow under UV, while everything else stays the same - and it works even in sunlight. Some lichen are very easy to id with this.
@bmgnrs vielleicht eher spielerische App zum Arten-Sammeln (Achievements usw.) 😅
Jedenfalls funktioniert sie gut um Arten zu checken: statt Fotos direkt machen, liest sie auch Fotos aus und sagt dir die Art/Gattung, suppo Soche hoi 🤘
