People severely underestimate the importance of good indoor #co2 levels.
This is a crazy video, but it helps to emphasize just how much we depend on co2 levels being good, especially in how we process information.

We now know low co2 levels help mitigate the spread of #covid19, but even more than that, levels approaching or exceeding 1000 ppm will have noticeable effects on cognitive abilities.
I monitor my air constantly now. I know when levels are reaching 1000 or more, as I start to feel more tired and sleepy. Can't focus as well. During workouts I have significantly less energy to continue.
Feel tired when driving? Ever heard the recommendation to open a window? It's the high co2 levels!
How can schools teach students effectively when levels are allowed to exceed 1000 ppm in classrooms?
And guess what? By the time you notice the effects, it's already been hitting you for a while. Just like when you feel thirsty it means you're already dehydrated, feeling co2 tiredness means it's already reduced your cognitive capacity.
Disease spread aside, we need improved #IAQ, especially in schools!
A regular reminder that the goal is *not*
“A #HEPAFilter in every classroom”,
it’s
“Achieving #cleanair delivery targets in every classroom”
This may be mechanical #ventilation, multiple portable air filters, or both.
The goal is achieving ensure real risk reduction, not a box ticking exercise with little impact.
The portable air filter recommendation tool at https://filters.cleanairstars.com was built with this is mind, helping achieve clean air delivery targets at required noise levels.

#IAQ "If a commercialized cleaner using PC fans similar to the aluminum fabricated PC fan CR box existed, it would provide an ideal solution for commercial spaces."

@Nathanpboston Great to see this project published!
“Our model calculations show that increasing ventilation to recommended levels (7 L/s) would increase total CO2 emissions, energy use, and cost (1–4%), but this could be counterbalanced by rooftop garden installation benefits, which yielded a net decrease of 23–46% in CO2 emissions, 12–13% in energy use, and 12–16% in cost.”
For clean air to be a cost-effective public health intervention, clean air delivery ultimately is, or should be, a commodity to help in achieving the maximum amount of risk reduction in the most locations for a given budget. The portable air filter recommendation tool at http://filters.cleanairstars.com was developed specifically to help achieve this goal.
@kissane For #IAQ monitoring, we invested in the SAF Aranet4 which, today new at ~ USD $200 is out of budget for many.
There's a lot of <$100 options, but I'm reading reports that some are fake, poorly calibrated, or wildly inaccurate.
Do folks have #recommendations for current models of 'consistent and decent' #CO2 monitors, at different price points?
We really need a solution for getting fresh air into homes during wildfires when there is no air conditioning. My co2 is at 1343 ppm, and I can’t let in outdoor air. As far as I’ve searched there’s no solution to this but waiting. Miserable.
As more parts of the world are being forced to deal with wildfire smoke and COVID-19 simultaneously, it is important to discuss how these health threats interact, and how to maintain good indoor air quality (IAQ) in the face of these dual disasters. Is this UVGI at MacDonalds? Is it likely to be doing much? Seems to only cover a very small volume of air.
CO2 (at <50% occupancy) was 700-800ppm.

I was stoked about the arrival of my
#Atmotube air quality monitor to detect smoke where we travel. That is, until I saw the unconscionable gaslighting kicking off this blog post:
"Since the end of the COVID-19 pandemic..."

End? You do know who your target customer base is, right?

@AndrewGuilford need to make masks -- or a high number of air changes per hour -- mandatory on public transit, otherwise cars are sadly a viable physical barrier during the unmitigated spread of a mass-disabling airborne disease (#covid, #iaq)
Why Haven’t We Made It Safer to Breathe in Classrooms?
Endemic diseases require endemic means of actually managing them, smart guy ✨☣️✨
Are you a measles maximalist? A TB maximalist? Do you realize that #SARSCoV2 being airborne -- like measles and TB -- means we have to do _that much more_ in order to "live with it" and "stop living in fear?"
The bystander effect is in full effect at the level of entire organizations. No one wants to invest in serious #IAQ for the working class unless literally forced to
As cases of Covid surge again around the world, it's a good time to remind ourselves of the few tools we have available to avoid infection:
-Masking in indoor spaces and in crowded outdoor areas
-Air filtration and ventilation of indoor spaces
