But I finally have #Japanese input in my #OpenBSD box with #uim + #anthy. Just a couple of caveats but possible. #netsurf can’t use it, and I’ve not tried #w3m nor #lynx yet, but at least I can use it on both #leafpad and #nvi.

Ok, uninstalled #ibus and tried #scim + #anthy for #Japanese input. It works, but only for leafpad or other graphic programs, not for #xterm or #nvi/#vim.

Does anyone have a solution for using it also on terminal windows?

Maybe #uim?

Finally, #Japanese input: #ibus + #anthy doesn’t work very well, I always have to launch it manually and even so it doesn’t always work, or works only for one program but not the others.

Aaah #ibus a corrigé le bug des points de code Ctrl+Shift+U (unicode) et Ctrl+Shift+E (emoji), ce bug empêchait de saisir ces caractères… bien content que ce soit de nouveau fonctionnel !

Any #Gnome / #ibus users know whether the emoji search changed in Gnome 44/GTK 4.10/ibus 1.5.28?

I used to be able to do Ctrl+Shift+e, type "thumb" and it would search all the emoji for "thumbs up" etc.

Now I get the underlined 'e' for emoji search but it doesn't search. If I do Ctrl+Shift+e then Space then I get a window that I've never seen before that says "Favourites" (no search, no groups) and "Open Unicode Choice" (looks like a list of PO file headers!)

Normal English text contains a great many characters that don't come on the ordinary keyboards I use.

And occasionally I want to write a name or phrase which doesn't use English orthography, right there in my English-language text.

That's why every operating system needs a good #FreeSoftware Input Method Engine, and a good stock of Input Methods to choose from so you can quickly switch to a different writing system and then back again.
