#ICA23 feels like forever ago but I'd meant to share the opening slides from the DigitalValues team because powerpoint has been one my only creative outlets lately 😭 (and because I'm amused by the different aesthetic sensibilities of @rscarlets Tommaso Trillò Avisahi Green + I)

unlike @josh, who has returned comments to his students, I am still catching up with grading after #ica23. 47 exams on my list today. And it's not over because in the Italian system we now start with official exam dates (either oral or written) three for each of the three courses I teach until mid July (and 2x3) in early Spetember. This is one the reasons why academics from other countries avoid coming to Italy...

@rickf @michaelzimmer Also -- having come back from #ICA23 feeling like I don't really "fit" with the model for Student and Early Career Scholar programming, I'm thinking about starting/coalescing something through #AoIR aimed at "early career" scholars with alternative pathways into academia. I'm wondering (and hopeful) that #AoIR may be a good vehicle for this kind of community. Are you aware of any programs that support students/early career scholars coming from industry --> academia?

Sorry to see so many falling ill. Seeing ppl asking why individuals didn’t take more precautions. Wrong question. This needs to be handled at level of conference policy. And unfortunately it being insufficient is a mirror of most of the institutions where we work. #ICACovidSafe #ICA23

This is not over, folks, & getting infected over & over is not a viable strategy. Conferences & classrooms need to be rethought with attention to multiple mitigations at all times that aren’t the burden +

Hey #ica23 gang - I am still covid negative a few days after getting back, but just a friendly reminder to everyone that it’s a good idea to test regularly, even if you’re feeling okay. And *especially* if you’re feeling any symptoms. It can take a few days for any results to show

And if anything does come back positive, to try and let others you were around know. Since I doubt the organization is going to facilitate any type of contact tracing

What a painful trip back from #ICA23. My flight from Toronto was delayed (2 hours!), lost the connection to Milan AND my daughter’s recital (feel so bad about it), the new flight has just been delayed… going to Australia would have taken less!
