Anyway, that's a roundabout way of saying that I'm in the midst of picking an internal TLD scheme for my VPN, and I've decided the ISO3166 User Assigned Code Elements* should be and are fair game. (Alongside .home.arpa, which you can thank the #IETF for.)

* AA, QM to QZ, XA to XZ, and ZZ (but avoid XN)

#ICANN can suck it.

Really not a fan of all the new vanity #TLDs that #ICANN has decided to start selling.

It's such an un-asked-for "feature" that it doesn't take much squinting to look like straight-up corruption. Apparently, someone must have decided there was money to be made… and now every giant corporation (or a sleazier squatter) can have its own TLD.

Especially galling since IANA/ICANN refuses to set-aside TLDs for internal use, despite decades of recommendations:

@bluebec It is disappointing to hear that the domain that you've been using for over a decade is going away due to a registrar policy change..

The EPP status is #serverRenewProhibited 🙁

In my opinion, they should have grandfathered you in, or offered to transition you to the second level domain equivalent since it was their change.

I hope this style of bait-and-switch registrar policy change doesn't become common with new #gTLDs
