Researchers have found that California experienced a major extinction event at the end of the Ice Age, about 10,000 years ago. This event coincided with changing climate, growing human populations, and widespread fires that altered the landscape and the biodiversity. The study warns that we may face a similar scenario today as we witness unprecedented environmental changes and human impacts on nature.

On this, "The Road to Kuwahi", you may see the refuge of the "Southern Appalachian Spruce-Fir forest", the woods that, during the last glacial period, covered the American South...and someday will cover it again.

Not sure why these people think that the planet doesn't have natural cycles of warming and cooling periods, they'd probably say that the was a catastrophe and the planet would freeze until it killed us all if they were around then lol

I have long wondered about the body shapes of prehistoric finds like the of . From today's perspective, I would assume that there were actually no obese people in the . But since the figures are very close to life, there must have been really fat people at that time. Surely others have also thought about it. What are some thoughts about this? How can it be that Ice Age people knew obese body shapes so well?

For an amazing object from yesterday's visit to Urgeschichtliches Museum Blaubeuren - an masterpiece! The so-called Venus of Hohle Fels (a cave on the Swabian Jura) was carved in mammoth ivory some 40,000 years ago. The 6cm long figurine is the world’s oldest known representation of a human. It lacks a head. Instead, a carved ring is placed above the shoulders. The ring preserves polish, suggesting that the figurine was worn as a pendant.
