So I'm at the #ServiceOntario #today with the PT (petulant/precocious teenager) getting his provincial health card renewed. The wonderful lady says "Well, now that you're 16, I have to ask you whether you'd like to be a organ donor?"
I knew there would be a pause (its a hefty decision), but it stretched further than anticipated, until I realized: "no no" I said, "she means when or if you DIE accidentally". We all laughed (him with relief) and he said yes.

Another fairly chilly #icebath today. It’s so much easier in the winter and I don’t have to spend 45 minutes cooling the water down with bottles of ice 😅 Took me a few minutes to get into the cold though today. I spent about 5 minutes in horse stance, focusing myself and readying my body for the cold water 🥶
Another day, another ice bath. It’s windy today so it feels really cold, but the water was surprisingly warm at 9.8c. Spent a bit longer in the water to account for the slightly higher temp.

At these temperatures , it’s a real challenge for me. I definitely don’t wanna get in that water but I know I have to.
The instant I get in my body starts to fight it. My breathing wants to pant, my legs spasm to get ready for jumping out, but I have to calm my breath, relax my body. I’m in and I’m staying in so my body has to adapt.
For maximum benefit there are no hot showers after the ice bath. My core has to warm me up itself. Moving and chanting start the process.

I’ve recently started taking ice baths again. It sounds a bit mad but it does wonders for my mental health and my body feels relaxed, warm and tingly afterwards.
It’s like each day my mind and body get to reset and my body learns to breathe deeply and just be. I’m not a religious person but in the moment there’s something almost spiritual about it.
