Icebergs coming out of the Icefjord into Disko Bay from Ilulissat glacier in West Greenland. At the end you can see where the sill (bump on the sea floor) is at the mouth of the fjord where all the big icebergs are getting stuck.

Petermann Glacier is a magnificent outlet glacier Greenland and it drains about 4% of the ice sheet.

The title says it all: in spite of what you might have heard, it's not growing. If you're interested in finding out how we know it's not, even though some people think it might be and what is likely next for this glacier, read on.

The summer solstice is 's National Day

PILLUARIT!

Slightly unusually, the ablation season (net ice loss from melt) has yet to start in Greenland, surface melt is average for the time of year. Fresh snow is also still adding ice to the .

A start to the surface ablation season after the 21st June has only happened 4 times since 2000 - but was much more common in in the 80s + 90s.
Remember though - is still lost by of

I just read edition.cnn.com/2023/05/27/wor. The astounding idiocy of the and blows my mind. It forces me to, once again, reach for a metaphor.

What if et al existed back in 1912? What would the lunatic great-grandparents of these latterday loons have been doing? Feverishly twatting that are , hull-holes are nought but a scare campaign designed to control the masses, & is not even actually a thing? 🤷‍♀️

Would their insane twatting have altered tone & content as the seawater lapped at their ankles, then knees, then waists etc? Or maybe i'm missing the bigger picture, & in fact they'd have been twatting that there was no such thing at all as the -coined -via--funded so-called fictitious alleged "RMS Titanic". 🙄

These morons are truly so mind-numbingly stupid that i fear the managing committee of will need to build many much larger community halls to accommodate them all, when the next Awards ceremony occurs. The awful reality though is, ofc, unlike non-climate TDA candidates, these ones are not *only* taking themselves out, but *also* all the rest of us. 🤦‍♀️

I have driven the entire island of Newfoundland across, north and back. It was the beginning of October a few years ago so no icebergs then. I have to say that Newfoundland is one of the most beautiful places on Earth and also has the nicest people. And I say that as a Canadian. They are nicer than most of us. 😘

The first iceberg of the season is now floating past Twillingate. Very early which is concerning (obviously). People in NFLD make iceberg sightings an EVENT. They are so huge, powerful and terrifying, but also crazy beautiful. And iceberg search for photos will find you the most amazing from past years.

One of the re-enactors from L'Anse Aux Meadows told me about once when he was a teenager and wanted to impress a girl so he rowed her in a small wooden boat UNDERNEATH a huge bridged iceberg.(it's one of the most common iceberg photographs) He laughed because only as an adult did he fully realize how horrifically dangerous it was to do that.

There is also a beer company there that gets close enough to scrape the ice and make beer with the water. The beer tasted ok I guess, kinda mid. Anyhow, check out this site with the iceberg sightings.

@britt Hooker Valley, Mt Cook . Snow covered mountains, , Beautiful walk through a native bush valley.
I have visited three times, and would go again. Why did I go there? to see Aotearoa's highest peak, Aoraki, and of course the icebergs.
