I've been planning on some Internet radio stations for the last few years. Including how to do a proper internship program.

Along with some local venues for shows and club nights. Those would be livestreamed via #icecast and @peertube using #libretime, @mixxx, and other #freesoftware, and recorded if the band wants to press DVDs or CDs.

COVID and terrible day jobs really set me back but, things are looking better than ever so I think I'll be accomplishing my goals soon enough.

@vjprema The #Icecast media streaming server may be an option if you're looking to host it yourself

We were going to say peer-to-peer networking system I2P is what excites us. Its a step above the legacy internet and people see why once they start browsing the sites.

On the topic of media stations above there are a good number of #radioStations on I2P and they are a joy (most of the time at least, haha)

What apps are you folks using to #stream a collection or playlist of mp3's as a #radio station? The only thing I've been able to find is #Icecast and it appears to require me to convert my mp3's into ogg file. Also, most tutorial seem to either be quite old or focused on live-streaming events.

My streaming host would run linux (specifically #NixOS).

So there I was, during #aNONradio Open Mic and thought to myself, "Self, play something."

So, off to archive.org to find lossless songs. Brushed up on my #ffmpeg to transcode to the accepted format. Then, I scrambled to figure out how to #icecast. After getting a sane config file, Open Mic time had ended.

I loaded it to try out mpv playing a stream, and now im listening to to some cool piano that I don't know what it is. Kinda traditional composery, but jammy sounding.

(I'm a piano music noob)

I wrote a quick and cursory note about how I #recordAudio for my #icecast mixing mpv and my mic. @Ae ; the principles are very general and terminal based though I use #openbsd sndio (instead of pulse, say)

@Twisted666 As I recall FOOBAR2000 is/was a media player, correct? Depending on your setup, it should be doable. I have setup temporary "streaming stations" and DIY HTML to allow remote streams to play. If it's just you, that's easy to do; if you want to give others access, that's more involved. If you want "The Internet" to have access, that's just asking for trouble.

Used #pymumble and #icecast to stream audio from #mopidy to my #mumble server

I used #botamusique music bot for mumble up until now, but I was wondering if it'd be possible to use a well known solution like mopidy or a `subsonic`-compatible server for this.

It seemed excessive to me that botamusique reimplements the typical player features like playlists (but adds a convenient YT wrapper though), while aiming to be just a bot.

Mopidy is great for a "jukebox" style playback, where many users can control the same music stream. On the other hand, if you use a #subsonic server and play audio in 4 browser windows, each one will get an independent video stream. There's a Jukebox mode for Subsonic that I didn't check, though.

The only thing that was missing in Mopidy from botamusique was the ability to play audio from yt videos. Thankfully, mopidy-yt exists.

After that, just set Mopidy to output to icecast, and read the icecast stream with ffmpeg, connect as a bot user to Mumble, and play the audio :)
