Study finds ‘direct evidence’ of #polar amplification on continent as scientists warn of implications of #ice loss. #Antarctica is likely #warming @ almost 2x rate of rest of world & faster than #climatechange models are predicting w far-reaching implications for #global #sealevel rise. #Scientists analysed 78 Antarctic #icecores to recreate temperatures going back 1,000 yrs & found the warming across continent was outside what could be expected from natural swings. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/sep/08/antarctica-warming-much-faster-than-models-predicted-in-deeply-concerning-sign-for-sea-levels

It's not that the Nature Conservancy used measurements of ice core samples. They only repeat the interpretations of ice core data from others, who may or may not be glacial or atmospheric chemistry scientists.
So much of the hype around Climate Change is from the megaphone press, who merely repeat what others say without any critical review. They're not experts in the field, so they swallow whatever they're fed and don't question the sources.
Meanwhile, the real scientists working in the field do their research, publish in peer reviewed professional journals and get on with the science of theory formation.
The science is solid, on-going and NOT SETTLED!!!

It takes 200 years for atmospheric gas bubbles to become sealed in glacial ice such that there is no longer any gas exchange with the atmosphere. This means that CO2 measurements from gas samples from glaciers younger than 1823 do not reflect yearly scaled CO2 levels. In essence, we have no systematic instrumental atmospheric CO2 measurements from 1823 to 1958.
More technically, this means that CO2 measurements in air bubbles from ice cores represent a 200 year running average, which cannot be compared with the yearly instrumental records available since 1958.
Different is not the same.
Turns out a compressed gas cart is really handy for moving ice cores.
Kicked out of a downstairs lab freezer, I'm using the freight elevator in the Science building to move to another lab freezer at Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
One of these is a section of firn ice from GISP2.
What am I gonna do with these?
Wait and see......
