Green & Parsons's free skate to Rhapsody in Blue is really growing on me. I love how the music is arranged to match all the of the elements and transitions. It's a very tightly constructed programme, and they do it beautifully.

I gotta say, Dupayage and Nabais stand out in a big way from every other ice dance team w/r/t their rhythm dance interpretation. Good for them. I'm SO SICK of all the identical music choices and costumes, and they gave me a big honking parrot on Dupayage's chest, choreography that was nothing like the others, and music that no one else is using.

2. Caroline Green (1) is skating to Rhapsody in Blue (2), while wearing a pink dress (3), See, look, I've annotated Fig 1 below. Gives me cognitive dissonance.

#FigureSkating thread incoming below! I'm finally watching the #IceDancing free skate from the #EuropeanChampionships. I always leave ice dancing for last when I watch these events: They're pretty, they tend to have fewer falls, and the skaters tend to be older, which means we have lots of non-infant people making beautiful body shapes without risking life and limb every time they do something cool. What's not to like?

Azroian/Gruzdev: Not much to say about them. To be fair, I was distracted because Mr Absolutive showed up partway through with a plate of cheese. And, to be very fair, it's a plate of artisanal cheese that we get from a cheese box we subscribe to, whose quarterly delivery is a Big Deal in the Ergative Absolutive household.

But still: They were less interesting than cheese. Alas.

Dozzi/Papetti: I'm terribly sorry I can't provide a screenshot. You'll have to take my word for it that Papetti looks EXACTLY like a vampire, doing Latin-rhythm ice-dancing.

Matthaei/Liebers: I like how they incorporate those deep edge curves into their choreography, and I *loved* how they marked the end of the first twizzle. Pity about Matthaei's fall there--that edge-curve exit was something I haven't seen before.

The choreo rhythm sequence was uninspired, though. That's also a surprise--usually the ice dancers excel at that.

Hey, mastodon! Figure skating's back! I'm watching the #iceDancing rhythm dance at Lake Placid Winter Games, and these are all college students, it seems. I'm not familiar with this competition, but I'll be very interested to see what types of performances can be put forward by people who don't train full time.

Possibly controversial (or not?) #FigureSkating opinion. I’m starting to far prefer watching #IceDancing and #Pairs over #Singles. The difference between a quad and a triple to a viewer is minimal. The difference between artistry in a program packed with high value jumps v a balanced program that isn’t trying to min/max a score is astronomical to a viewer. And the skating between jumps is often lacking in skaters focused on points. Ice Dance is more enjoyable for me as a spectator.

Gilles and Poirier's rhythm dance opening makes me laugh each time. The music begins with a voiceover that says, 'Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce . . . ME!' And at the 'ME!' they take this pose, right in front of the judging panel. Classy and cocky at the same time.

And, of course, when you skate like Gilles and Poirier, you can play it straight and it works. These two were so crisp, and Gilles's purple dress was stunning.

Ok, Hawayek/Baker: I had not until this moment realised that one way to deal with the Latin rhythm requirement is to make fun of it. That's what they're doing, here, right? It's got to be. Baker is definitely vibing like Dad got out his 1970s college clubbing duds from the attic to embarrass his twelve-year-old daughter while chaperoning the school dance, and at the dance he discovered that he got on REAL well with Hawayek's sexy Miss Frizzle.

It works SO WELL!
