I made a pot of iced #tea yesterday, for the first time in months, and I'd forgot how good #icedtea with sugar and lemon tastes.

I use the Lipton large tea bags (1 sachet per litre/quart of water).

I blended about 2 cups of small, very sweet wild Québec strawberries with the juice of a lime, and added a bunch of ice. I then poured the iced gyokuro into it, and topped with a sprig of basil from the balcony garden.

Gyokuro packs a lot of caffeine per gramme, so I've been sipping this slowly and adding a lot of ice cubes, but this concoction is absolutely delicious. I'm absolutely going to do this again.

A rare treat today to sustain my brain through this horrifying heat! I made an iced tea smoothie treat for myself.

Last night, I took 10 grammes of gyokuro and cold brewed it into a litre of water, which I then stuck into the fridge overnight.

The resulting gyokuro was light and delicious, it took all my self control to not drink it immediately this morning, but I had other plans...

When the temperature hits 35 Celsius, I still drink tea. I just switch out the kettle for ice cubes. Gyokuro, kukicha, and hojicha are particularly delicious brewed on ice. The cold water pulls out all the sweetness and there is almost no bitterness.

Pictured is some gyokuro on ice brewing in a shiboridashi. I like to put a ton of gyokuro (like... an obscene amount) and let the icecubes melt, and I'll add a tiny little bit of cold water periodically to tease out all the cold sweetness.

I've never seen tea cream down so much. This is cold, straight, unsweetened, unadulterated black tea: Taylors Assam, IIRC. Made it Wednesday or Thursday, but it looked about the same then as it does now. It looks like Apricot nectar. :) It's also pretty good, IMO.

Skipped posting batch 2 since it was a failure, but VERY pleased with batch 3:

I did end up switching to caffeine free oolong tea bags, which definitely goes down easier for me. By weight I still had to use the equivalent of six tea bags to get the concentration of oolong flavor I wanted, though.

The blueberry flavor comes from canned 100% blueberry juice. It's ok but I will try squeezing my own once I'm out of cans.

Not too sweet, not too bitter, just right 😊

This morning I found a mug full of herbal tea in the freezer. Frozen solid, complete with tea bag.

Apparently my 11 year old daughter made tea last night and, finding it too hot, put it in the freezer. Then forgot about it.

Results of experiment no. 1:

Sweetness: Not too sweet, but not bitter. I'm happy where this is at.

Oolong: Just a touch too much. Need to decide whether to try 4 or 5 bags next time.

Blueberry: Detectable, but could stand to be a little stronger. Maybe use some concentrate with/instead of preserves?

Other: I completely forgot about caffeine content and WOW this is heavy on it. Do they make decaf oolong???

Good first attempt.

I've been bummed ever since Turkey Hill stopped selling Blueberry Oolong tea so I'm finally trying to make my own! Put 6 bags of oolong in 1 gallon of water. I remember reading that you could substitute fruit preserves for sugar cup-for-cup, so I put 1 1/2 cups of blueberry preserves with 1 cup of water in a blender and blitzed it for a minute. Once the stove reduces enough I'll remove and squeeze the bags, mix in the "sugar", refrigerate, and report back tomorrow.

@Cbfoley @GardenOfEden Same here. Working as a chef, especially in the summer, I need to drink a lot of fluids. I don't drink soft drinks except once in a while so I drink iced tea. I make it by the gallon and keep 2 to 3 gallons always ready to go in the refrigerator. When I was a kid, if you ordered iced tea in a restaurant you got unsweetened tea and you put your own sugar in.

Nowadays, what people (in the US) expect and what we serve in the restaurant is "Southern sweet tea" which is heavily sugared. The tea I make for myself has one sixth the amount of sugar of the tea we serve to customers and it's plenty sweet, in my opinion. I also flavor my tea when I brew it so it vaguely resembles chai tea.
