On our way to Oregon, Brett and I started the day at Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Park in Nevada. Under a shelter are 9 partial skeletons of the giant #Triassic #ichthyosaur Shonisaurus popularis. With a length of up to 15 meters, Shonisaurus was one of the largest known ichthyosaurs. #roadtrip #paleontology #stateparks #fossil

Yesterday I marked #InternationalWomensDay by honouring #RosalindFranklin, who discovered the structure of #DNA. I had meant also to flag #MaryAnning (1799-1847), the pioneering palaeontologist from Lyme Regis who with her brother Joseph discovered the first #ichthyosaur fossils.

Berlin-Ichthyosaur Nevada State Park is both an old 1890s mining ghost town & a world class Triassic Period (225 million years ago) fossil bed.
