The way Microsoft and Apple do everything in their power to sneakily turn on file sync for Desktop/Documents folders is maddening.

I’ve only ever seen it cause problems with clients I help, and despite me being fully on the lookout for it, it still manages to catch me sometimes when doing new installs.

It goes against user expectations to the point of being actively hostile.

I really wish #Apple’s Mail.app on iOS/macOS let you set the default #iCloud account for replies. It defaults to your Apple ID account, which is not at all what I want. #OldManShakesFistAt_iCloud

I use the #Reminders app on my iPhone and my Macbook a lot. Both are set up to use my #iCloud account for personal tasks and my #MS365 (#Exchange) account for work stuff.

Problem: On my iPhone, recurring tasks from the 365 account somehow self-duplicate regardless of being completed on the Macbook, resulting in numerous duplicates of uncompleted tasks on my phone.

I cannot figure out what is causing this, and it's driving me nuts 🤬

@TfTHacker @alxlg Idk for sure, but may be that background syncing on iCloud only works with apps that store notes in a database like Drafts and Bear. Obsidian requires local files, so everything in the cloud including changes has to be duplicated before it can start working without sync errors. I use #Obsidian Sync (which I’m happy with) and haven’t used Obsidian extensively with iCloud.

I tried using #iCloud to sync #Logseq, and found it an unusable nightmare.

Does #iCloud #PrivateRelay block #Steam downloads for anyone else? When on, it seems to block my from downloading games, Steam Cloud Sync, and downloading game updates. The rest of the app works fine, though.

Steam Support said this was an Apple/iCloud problem (FB13123271)

After my debacle with #Apple (using their « advanced data protection » that actually corrupted all my data), time to move away from the very last #GAFAM service I was using: #icloud.

Monday, I get and configure my #Synology #NAS. I will #selfhost: pictures and home videos, email, contacts, calendar, reminders, notes, files.

#firefoxsync will be my bookmarks, history and passwords manager.

I’ll keep #AppleMusic for convenience, for now.

I'm factory resetting an old MacBook Pro today, and as part of that I needed sign out of iCloud on that machine. Signing out required entering my iCloud password (what) but it didn't accept the password that is definitely absolutely correct (what) so I had to do a password reset (what) and then re-login (what) in order to successfully sign out (hahaha *what*)

I'm old enough to remember when Apple used to be good. 😭
