I loved checking out the Evening Grosbeaks checking out our birdfeeder in McCall last week. #Idaho #IdahoWildlife #Birds #Birding

Unlike Alaska, it's not a good thing here when a #moose wanders through our neighborhood. If it's lucky it will get darted and relocated. #IdahoWildlife
I love that female phalaropes are not only flashier than the males, but that they often mate with more than one male and leave the guys to incubate the eggs and brood the young. Wilson's Phalarope photo by Jim DeWitt. #Birds #Birding #IdahoWildlife

Another cool critter for #BatAppreciationDay. This is a long-eared Myotis we saw in the Sawtooths. They hunt either by hawking moths in the air, or gleaning prey like moths, spiders, and beetles from tree trunks. Each method of hunting requires a different type of echolocation to locate their prey. They can also hear moth wingbeats without using echolocation. Jim DeWitt photo #Bats #Mammals #IdahoWildlife

Almost time to go look for these strutting beasties again, though all the snowpack this spring will make it a challenge. Jim DeWitt photo. #Birds #BirdsOfMastodon #Birding #IdahoWildlife

Happy #WorldWildlifeDay! Snow Geese, like those shown in this photo of a flock in southwest #Idaho, remain abundant. Let's work to restore the abundance of other species as well. #Birds #Conservation #IdahoWildlife

Best bird so far today for me in the #GreatBackyardBirdCount is a Townsend's Solitaire, a type of thrush distantly related to American Robins. I always find them by their repetitive, single note call. Jim DeWitt photo. #GBBC #Birds #BirdsOfMastodon #IdahoWildlife

Best bird on our #GreatBackyardBirdCount today was a Brown Creeper. First one we've seen all winter. Photo by Jim DeWitt. #GBBC #BirdsOfMastodon #Birds #IdahoWildlife

I had time for a bird survey for the Great Backyard Bird Count before heading back to Boise. Just 8 Mountain Chickadees and 5 Red-breasted Nuthatches. #birding #IdahoWildlife #birds #GBBC

Cool critter track I just found. I’m pretty sure it was made by a river #otter. Came from a creek and entered a hole in the lake ice. They can swim under ice 1/4 mile and hold their breath four minutes. #IdahoWildlife
Found another elk to admire. #WapitiWednesday #IdahoWildlife #WildlifeWednesday
