Is there a free #IDE that’s intuitive for first-time programmers to use? Even VS Code has a pretty high cognitive load out of the box, what with having to install an extension for whatever language you want to use and all the tabs for version control, terminal, debugging, testing, etc. The “Run” button is tiny and has a drop-down with potentially confusing questions. For brand-new users I’d love to have a cleaner interface by default, with the option to toggle on additional complexity.

Some months ago an snap auto-update (snaps update without asking) on Ubuntu completely messed up my jntellij idea #ide .

I lost one day trying to recover without success.

This was the point when I installed #linux #mint and threw away Ubuntu. I now live a happy life without stupid snaps and enjoy a stable a nice computer. 👍

I hate to admit that #VisualStudio is probably the best #IDE I have ever used (keep in mind this comes from a guy used to #neovim… as soon as debugging was required I had to switch, but only because I'm lazy and don't have the time to mess with #nvimdap)

I wonder what the #Linux #IDE situation is for #FreeBASIC these days...
