Ich bin seit 2008, oft mit eigenen Instanzen, im #Fediverse.

Zuerst auf #Identica und #StatusNet, bis heute mit #Mastodon und #Firefish.

Bei meiner Bewertung zählen dabei die Nutzerfreundlichkeit, auch ob auf der Plattform zeitgemäße Neuerung integriert wurden, und nicht zuletzt natürlich auch die Möglichkeit, die Oberfläche für mich anzupassen.

Ever since the #identica days at the start of #federation, I've advocated that #hashtags simply be an html 'create link' style command. you type the # into your post to create the hashtag link, but the # gets stripped from the text just leaving the text.

All the # s are difficult to read by everyone - not just accessibility text to voice programs.

@thegibson On #identica , first #fediverse post was July 2008. The links don't seem to work from that far back.

Glad that @evan got a huge callout for blazing the path we all now benefit from by starting #identica, hosting it for many years, and developing the open source protocols that allow for #federated #mastodon instance today.

I loved Identica and was very active there. when it kind of faded away, I went back to twitter but mostly read only. It's liberating to be back in an active and fun social media ecosystem. Thanks Evan!!

amazing to see all of the new micro blogging networks: Scuttlebutt, Nostr, Mastodon and Feedland - I think RSS will be huge in the new landscape because there are 15 million+ sites already equipped - huge ecosystem. For many of us who were on the Fediverse for years, Mastodon is not a Twitter replacement so much as an identi.ca replacement. :)

But more to the point, Free Software folks don't see ourselves generally in terms of raw numbers, but in terms of making something comfortable and enjoyable for us.

I only care about the numbers insomuch as they speak to sustainability. Otherwise, they don't matter other than as a horse race.

This issue with replies not showing on Mastodon is a huge problem, that needs to be fixed.

I can't remember that we had this issue with Identi.ca/Laconi.ca and the different protocols it used, but I don't know if that's because the issue didn't exist, or because most people used the main instance.

Does other federated tools of today have this same problem, like Pixelfed or PeerTube?
