@AugierLe42e

We don't actually need a special constant for this; this is a pretty standard Python :

NOT_SET = object()

def f(a: int, b: int = NOT_SET):
if b is NOT_SET:
# function called without second argument
...

NOT_SET is a bare object, which will never compare equal to anything else, and is a singleton so the natural test is . It absolutely distinguishes between "no argument" and "caller happened to pass the value ".

It may not make sense as described, but the patient/perpetrator now had both hands and wrists in plaster, and, as a single person, required assistance for many tasks, including having to urinate.
His (would have been) victim escaped with a mild hangover.

A long time ago, in a hospital far, far away. A drunk male brought in with both 5th metacarpals broken.
It appeared that the patient had fought with another drunk, but the other had collapsed at the time of the punch,causing the patient's fist to strike the wall. Enraged, he pulled the other upright to punch with the other fist, but the other slumped sideways at the time.

Quand les internautes parlent du "fédivers" je pense d'abord aux chiens écrasés ... puis aux faits d'hiver.
Et ici, il y a de tout, sinon des chiens écrasés.

Why is "coming " seen as positive when "" is negative?

I felt the need to compare [virtuous/vicious] [circle/cycle]. Have you ever wondered which was “right” or which felt more “normal”?

According to Google :
- “Vicious circle” is most common by a long shot, the progenitor .
- “Vicious cycle” is almost nonexistent
- The “virtuous” options are very close to each other, with “circle” being more common, but only by a bit.

Do you know any other-language equivalent to “the calm before the storm”?

Are there any languages that you know *don’t* have an equivalent?

I love playing with a good idiomatic expression. They’re kind of silly when you take a moment to visualize what’s being said. Here's my latest comic. More comics here: pushbuttonheads.substack.com/p

As an idiom, instead of "skipping a beat", in Kala, the heart spins, or inverts, and then sets back to its original poisition.
