I love seeing the #idioms speakers of different #languages come up with to describe the same concepts. I've been learning #irish on duolingo off and on for over four years and only just realized the phrase that translates to "always"--"i gcónaí"--literally means "in residence". It makes so much sense when you think about it, but I'm so used to my own idiom as a native English speaker that it would never occur to me to put it like that.

Help me out here... If you have a single person hanging out with a couple, are they a third wheel or a fifth wheel?

I've always said fifth wheel because a fifth wheel is superfluous. A third wheel is a tricycle, which is a perfectly legitimate mode of transportation. But two critique partners, without talking to each other, just corrected me. Have I been wrong all this time?
