In 2019 #IdrisKhattak was forcibly disappeared for 8 months before being shown to have been arrested. He was convicted by a military court in a secret trial. He remains in prison while his family continues to suffer. #ReleaseIdrisKhattak

#HumanRights defender #IdrisKhattak was subject to #enforceddisappearance.

Despite being a #civilian, he was tried by a #militarycourt and charged with espionage under Pakistan’s Official Secrets Act. In 2021, there were reports that he had been sentenced to 14 years in prison but his family is yet to receive official notification. An appeal has been filed in the #Islamabad High Court. 

In #Pakistan, enforced disappearance is a tool to muzzle criticism of the state.
