The #IEA reports on Australia’s energy policy and practices every five years. The latest one has just been released, again with much delicacy in the wording as they outline the inadequacies of our performance.

On gas exports the report comments that local gas prices have been rising “in step with LNG netback prices”. Netback price is basically the international price with LNG production costs deducted.

It then discreetly notes that “this is a unique situation for a producer and exporter.”

👉 In other words, we are the only major LNG exporter that has not set up mechanisms to protect local gas consumers. 👈

The report also points out that #energy #poverty is becoming an issue in #Australia.

@vegbrox Det er vel ca 3 partier (SV, MDG og V) som tydelig sier de vil gjøre noe, mens de store er for redde for å falle på valgbarometere til at de vil/tør si noe. Støres nei til å følge #IEA og #FN anbefalinger sier litt om denne redselen. I et land med en god andel klimaskeptikere tør de ikke gamble med støtten i befolkningen.

Matproduksjonen verden over rammmes av #klimaendringer. Her i Norge det først og fremst #flom, men for ett år siden lå vanntilførselen bøndene har i Mjøsa tørre hele våren til midt i Juni. Verdien av #oljefondet vil indirekte påvirkes det blir større knapphet på mat.

Både #IEA og #FN har advart mot dette, men Støre sa så sent som i går kveld at han ikke vil gjøre som de sier. Det betyr fortsatt leting etter olje og gass.

Electricity demand in the European Union is set to fall by 3% in 2023 to its lowest level in twenty years, according to new estimates by the International Energy Agency (IEA).

Spiraling energy prices and economic slowdowns in European economies are mainly accountable for the decrease in demand.

A record two-year slump of 6% in EU electricity consumption was recorded during the first half of 2023 following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
