Looks like my IETF / skateboarding post got lost in my failed mastodon upgrade. In condensed form - I blew off the IETF social and went to the Yokohama skatepark. At almost 50 years old I want to roll as much as possible before I just can't anymore. This park was pretty incredible. https://www.instagram.com/p/CqcDIh-DTNU/
I skipped the social event and managed to get some time at a great skatepark in Yokohama while at #IETF116. As I near very, very close to 50 years old I find that I really care a lot about still being able to roll on a wooden toy, but that it becomes increasingly harder on a body that has been beat up for the majority of time in its existence. Still, this was an incredible skatepark, even if I can't skate it like I could when I was 19.
Two final research group meetings on this, the last day of the #IETF116 meeting in Yokohama.
Starting at 09:30 JST, the Crypto Forum Research Group has a discussion on Guidelines for writing cryptography specifications plus updates on key blinding for signature schemes, RSA Blind Signatures with Public Metadata, VDAFs, and more https://datatracker.ietf.org/meeting/116/materials/agenda-116-cfrg-04
Also at 09:30, the Human Rights Protocol Considerations group has talks by Micah Lee on "Hack Leaks and revelations" and by Leah Rosenbloom on "Cryptography for grassroots organizing", plus new work on Intimate Partner Violence Digital Considerations https://datatracker.ietf.org/meeting/116/materials/agenda-116-hrpc-00
Three more IRTF research groups meet at #IETF116 today.
First, at 09:30 JST, is the Decentralised Internet Infrastructure RG with discussions of the causes and implications of Internet centralisation https://datatracker.ietf.org/meeting/116/materials/agenda-116-dinrg-03
Also at 09:30, is the Global Access to the Internet for All (GAIA) RG with work on mapping fibre infrastructure, IXPs, and collective risk reduction https://datatracker.ietf.org/meeting/116/materials/agenda-116-gaia-00
Finally today, at 13:00 JST, is the first meeting of the new Research and Analysis of Standard-Setting Processes Proposed RG. This aims to bring together researchers, practitioners, policy makers, standards users, and standards developers to study standardisation processes across SDOs - talks will focus on ethnographic studies of IETF and tools for collating data about IETF https://datatracker.ietf.org/meeting/116/materials/agenda-116-rasprg-02
As usual, recordings will be on the IETF channel on YouTube for those that cannot attend in person.

Two IRTF research groups are meeting today at #IETF116. First, at 09:30 JST, is the Information Centric Networking Research Group, with a focus on named data approaches to media delivery. Then, at 13:00 JST is the Path Aware Networking RG with an update on SCION. The Applied Networking Research Prize #ANRP award talks by Boris Pismenny ("Autonomous NIC offloads") and Arthur Selle Jacobs ("AI/ML for Network Security: The Emperor has no Clothes") will take place at 13:00 Japan Time today, in room G401-G402 for those on site at #IETF116, and streaming live at https://www.ietf.org/live/
The technical sessions at the #IETF116 meeting start today and, as usual, several IRTF research groups are co-locating. IRTF-related events today include the Computation in the Network and Quantum Internet Research Groups and the Applied Networking Research Prize talks https://datatracker.ietf.org/meeting/116/agenda?filters=cfrg,coinrg,dinrg,gaia,hrpc,iccrg,icnrg,irtfopen,maprg,nmrg,panrg,pearg,qirg,rasprg,ufmrg
I'll be presenting several updates to different work items at next week's #IETF116, such as on our approach to routing on service addresses (ROSA) to decentralize service provisioning, opportunities for using DLTs in BGP (the key inter domain routing protocol of the Internet), and use cases, requirements and architecture for compute-aware traffic steering (CATS). Check out the various drafts at https://datatracker.ietf.org/person/Dirk%20Trossen and drop me a message for feedback or interest in contribution.
Agenda for IETF-116 inter-domain routing (IDR) working group meeting is up.
