Brian Hibler makes an excellent point: the term "clean beauty" is NOT regulated by the FDA. And some of these products may include ingredients that are more likely to cause a contact allergy! #IIDFall22 #skincare #DermTwitter #Dermatology

I'm big into sunscreen, and it can be particularly important for patients who have melasma. #IIDFall22
I'm a medical dermatology person, but this session on Aesthetic dermatology is really useful and interesting at #IIDFall22!
Interesting suggestions around diet and hidradenitis suppurativa (we don't have a lot of studies in this space). Reminds me of the recommendations for acne @DrJohnBarbieri@twitter.com. #IIDFall22
It takes 7 to 10 years on average to diagnose patients with hidradenitis suppurativa, which can lead to significant quality of life issues and disease progression. #IIDFall22
Dr. Vishal Patel highlighting @AdeAdamson@twitter.com's work on overdiagnosis of melanoma at #IIDFall22.
Dr. Steve Wang is discussing the use of niacinamide for chemoprevention of non-melanoma skin cancer (note that most of the study population was white). Original study in @NEJM@twitter.com: https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/nejmoa1506197 #IIDFall22 @MedscapeLIVE@twitter.com
Really useful insights around nail psoriasis at #IIDFall22. All the physicians agreed that topicals are not really efficacious. Steroid injections are painful. Biologics do work, but it can take a year to be able to see improvement since nails grow slowly.

Dr. Jennifer Soung: There should be unique considerations for psoriasis by body sites. Involvement of these sites can cause additional issues for patients. #IIDFall2022 @MedscapeLIVE@twitter.com https://t.co/HSUNNtvTKK

Loved listening to Dr. Hilary Baldwin talk about how cleansers can be a double-edged sword. Of course, cleaning dirt, bacteria is important. But they can also perturb stratum corneum proteins, lipids, microbiome. #IIDFall22
Itβs really something as a dermatologist to see how quickly the atopic dermatitis landscape has changed!! Prior to 2017, prednisone was the only FDA approved systemic therapy for atopic dermatitis. Upcoming @AADskin@twitter.com guidelines will help bring things up to speed! #IIDFall22
People are always asking about sunscreen and prevention in melasma. Dr. Callender had some great tips for sunscreens: mineral sunscreens with iron oxide. Remember that even visible light is thought to affect melasma! #IIDFall22 @MedscapeLIVE@twitter.com #DermTwitter
Dr. Jenny Murase talked about soak and smear to clear patients prior to doing patch testing.
1) Have patient soak in a tub for 15 mins (can use dilute bleach or vinegar if worried about secondary infection
2) Cover 3:1 hypoallergenic moisturizer + topical steroid

This slide by Dr. Sidbury was interesting to me. What diseases have been associated with #atopicdermatitis? Some could be confounded by treatments (for example could osteoporosis be actually related to oral steroid use?). #IIDFall22 #DermTwitter @MedscapeLIVE@twitter.com

Really great talk from Dr. Sidbury that went over @AADskin@twitter.com atopic dermatitis guidelines. A lot has changed since the last guidelines and updated guidelines are on the way! #IIDFall22 @MedscapeLIVE@twitter.com
Really nice slide from Dr. Peter Lio at #IIDFall22 summarizing the underlying biology of atopic dermatitis. Understanding this helps us think about how to treat our patients. #DermTwitter @MedscapeLIVE@twitter.com
The #IIDFall22 Health Equity panel looks awesome! Amazing speakers like @SusanTaylorMD@twitter.com, Dr. Nada Elbuluk, Dr. Valerie D. Callender, Dr. Andrew F. Alexis, and Dr. Cheryl M. Burgess. https://events.medscapelive.org/website/36468/agenda/
