We almost moved to Tanegashima in 2020. In fact it was our first choice before we went to Ikijima. Still, this island has all the vibes of a remote island. Almost as soon as I got off the ferry it felt like time slowed down and relaxation set in. There are differences though... this place is much further south, thus different plant-life and Ryukyu influence. Very cool!
For those that don't know, here is my history with ritō:

Looks like they had a PR video contest on the #Ikijima YouTube page! Man, I know every place they shot and even recognize some of the people! 🥹 https://youtu.be/CR1O6QQKf7M
Friend from Ikijima is visiting us in Kyoto and brought all sorts of souvenirs like “ancient” rice, coffee, cookies from the “Chad” bakery on the island, and a cute soap in the shape of the Jinmenseki, a stone relic dating from a couple millennia ago. It is thought Yayoi period shamanesses used it in rituals.
Sometimes it is nice to travel to a place, and people, you already know. I had forgotten what this was like. #travel #japan #ikijima #壱岐島 https://chadkohalyk.com/2022/11/27/traveling-the-familiar/
