#WeekendSewingClub final update… it’s a black dress. There’s not much exciting about it and nothing at all innovative, and that’s okay! The fabric is lovely, it’s totally wearable, and the fit (which was most of the point) turned out really well…

#WeekendSewingClub finale… oh, alright, I like it more than I expected. A few harder-edged accessories and I’ll even probably wear it.

Really impressed myself with the fitting of the wrap-front. That’s the first time I’ve managed one with no trace of gaping (stay-stitching is a revelation)

Also, the inside is almost better than the outside… my grandma would’ve approved!

#WeekendSewingClub final update. Still a bit of finishing to be done on the fly opening, but I’m ready for an evening off! I’m pretty satisfied with how these turned out. I love a woven selvedge, so I was pleased to think of keeping it visible on the inside waistband. And I’m definitely more of a shorts-suit person than anything more grown-up, so Will actually wear this lot.

Very slight update: I’m going with a different shorts pattern that I’ve used before: front pleat gives a bit more room for the essential 2.5 dress size adjustment from waist to hip. I’ve also added a second back dart. Also skipping the frothy scalloped edge to the pockets - this is neither the time or the fabric! #sewing #tailoring #handmade #iMadeItMyself

#WeekendSewingClub update… Still the skirt lining and back seam to go, but considering I was still making pattern adjustments first thing this morning, not a bad day’s work. For anyone who’s been following, I did the facing in totally plain, very lightweight black worsted. The rest of the the lining is black Venezia acetate.

#WeekendSewingClub final update. Here’s the black wool, exposed-zip mini-skirt and, though I’m not given to gushing about my own work, I absolutely LOVE this!

I considered doing visible buttons on the waistband, but they’d have had to be weirdly aligned with the zip, so it’s hook and bar fasteners inside. If I was doing it again, I might extend the upper layer waistband 1.5 cm to put a single button right in line with the zip.
