@fourjuaneight I wrote a blog post in 2019 in response to #Google+ going offline (https://ws-dl.blogspot.com/2019/02/2019-02-08-google-is-being-shuttered.html). My post, along with other sources, was applied by the glorious all-volunteer ArchiveTeam (https://wiki.archiveteam.org) coordinated by @textfiles. They preserved as much of Google+ as they could before it was gone. They also have projects to preserve #Reddit, #Imgur, #Telegram, #GitHub, #YouTube, and many .ua #Ukraine sites.

I've yet to see anyone mention this, but the instant #imgur inevitably goes bankrupt the internet is going to have so many dead links.

You could add them on @MapComplete than they are uploaded to #imgur but in a way that they can later on be converted to commons/#Wikimedia iirc. That way they should also be displayed in #OsmAnd etc

This whole Russian thing reminds me once more about how interesting it was on #Imgur that before the Russian invasion of #Ukraine literally every picture of an Ukrainian military person or a civilian with a weapon was quickly "identified" as a Nazi in the comments and that we should not support that person.

And as soon as the invasion started to go badly that never happened again, all those accounts just started to shut up.

Imgur deleted all anonymous uploads. Google and Twitter are wiping inactive accounts. Streaming services are taking down finished TV shows. Others are following suit. Many major media stored electronically from c. 2005-> c. 2030 will not survive.

Popular image-sharing site #imgur has announced that it will ban explicit content from its service from 15 May.

But they will also purge old and unlinked images. So it might be time to check your timeline, #backup images currently hosted on imgur to have them even if it gets purged.
