@annedraya Where are the medical communities in this failure of the basics like masking? Our family doesn’t understand why hospitals and doctors aren’t using their voices to support masking? Masking being a simple example of a public health action for all. , , , , , .

sudden jolting realization that ''--a real thing, and shitty--will inevitably become an identitarian rhetorical cudgel for people w/social anxiety (if it hasn't already)

I used to dream big. My ambitions now are more pedestrian. Like, before I’m 50, I’d like to be able to go get a cup of coffee and sit in the coffeehouse and drink it. It’s been 3 years since I’ve been able to do this. And I’m not that optimistic.

I love my wife's parents.  Having a great time in Florida.

I was reluctant to travel from Maryland to Florida because -- you know
-- . And .  And .  And apparently Throat is going
around too.

However -- I had to come.  Yeah -- I could say no, but then I would
incur the marital damage of refusing to visit for several years... In
fairness, this emergency is going to go on for YEARS to come, so no
upset with my wife.  Even though it is a damn stupid time to travel.

Plane flight down the Thursday before Christmas -- fully packed flight
to Atlanta and the idiot next to me without a mask and coughing the
whole time.  Angela and I had N95 masks on the whole time.  Both fully
vaccinated and boosted against COVID and the Flu.

3 days after the flight, Angela got sick.  I managed to hold out about 6
days before getting symptoms.

You know those home COVID test kits?  Yeah -- lots of luck -- Angela has
been testing negative for well over a week with symptoms.

Today's urgent care visit -- negative on Flu and Strep.  Mild positive
on COVID -- mostly likely because we are now on the tale-end of it.  So
Angela has bronchial problems on top of COVID. I'm pretty mild -- a
minor miracle considering *I* am the one who is mildly
.  Ear infections and swelled neck lymph nodes too.
Antibiotics, nasal saline, and steroids in our immediate future.  Angela
gets a stronger antibiotic and an inhaler too.

Fun times.

Really hoping her parents stay okay.

I'm annoyed at being a poster child for stupidity here when I've done
little but isolate the whole time since March 2020.  We are also very
lucky.  This is my first (rather mild) go at having COVID.

Telehealth needs to be here to stay.

I got so sick, that I’m still dealing with secondary infections and medications are not working.

As an immune compromised person, I cannot begin to explain what it felt like to have COVID, to have no one to help me, and to be unable to help myself, and to be turned away by doctors… I resigned to the idea I could die, 2,800 miles away from my husband, alone.

This shits not over. Wear a mask.

As I just read another article on and one on post- immune deprivation in children, I am wondering why so few people still wear . With an family member, we still rigorously wear KN95 masks in public indoors spaces and still do not eat indoors in restaurants. We now appear to be extreme outliers in our community. Why? So far we have still not caught COVID, but being the only masked people takes an emotional toll.
