As the #ImpactFactor increases, #PeerReview reports get longer, especially discussing materials and methods. However, there are fewer reviewers from Asia, Africa, and South America in high-impact journals vs Europe and North America: the association may be driven by English fluency.
Anna Severin et al. conclude: "Differences were modest, and the Journal Impact Factor is therefore a bad predictor of the quality of peer review of an individual manuscript."

Good news: With an impact factor of 0 you will be among the top 41% of journals. Or is it bad news? =:-)
We are proud to share the latest issue of the Journal of Agriculture and Environment for International Development.
https://www.jaeid.it/index.php/jaeid/issue/view/835
The journal is fully #OpenAcces, it is indexed on SCOPUS and it got for the first time an #ImpactFactor of 0.8 for 2022.
Nothing new under the sun, but it is always interesting to see how deep the rabbit hole goes....

@deevybee Web of Science recently delisted 50 journals, removing their impact factors. But “Clarivate initially did not name any of the delisted journals or provide specific reasons.” Why wouldn’t they identify them?!

Journal performance beyond the #ImpactFactor. Cristina Huidiu at Elsevier (a former librarian) says responsible use of metrics - article metrics, journal metrics, & #altmetrics - can be business indicators to help publishers to make decisions.
Can get insights into impact beyond citations and trends in fields, from patents and funding.
Collaboration patterns of existing authors can show new directions of their work.

"#Elsevier told editors that fees were based on a journal’s reputation —specifically, their #ImpactFactor. As the editors grew the journal’s prestige, Elsevier increased the publication fee by about 15%…Keilholz…concluded that the incentives for #ForProfit publishers were not aligned with 'what we want for science.' Web of Science de-listed 50 journals from its #ImpactFactor calculation. The journals are primarily fast-growing pay-to-publish #openaccess publications.
The Web of Science Master Journal List, run by the analytics company Clarivate, lists journals based on 24 measures of quality, including effective #PeerReview and ethical #publishing practices.
The company expanded quality checks this year because of “increasing threats to the integrity of the scholarly record."

2/ In addition, #MDPI's continued use of #ImpactFactor and #Elsevier's CiteScore to market their journals breaches #DORA and opens up a journal that regularly publishes on the subject of responsible research evaluation or responsible bibliometrics to accusations of hypocrisy. https://khrono.no/vi-har-forlatt-redaksjonsradet-i-publications/770140

Following the delisting of MDPI's flagship journal IJERPH from Clarivate/Web of Science, I've penned a perspective. Hopefully helps folks understand where this came from & why it's such a big deal for #MDPI, and the implications moving forward. :googlescholar:
For perspective: IJERPH publishes more articles/y than PLOS One. đź“Š

Adam Eyre-Walker & Nina Stoletzki once showed that assessor score depends strongly on the journal in which the paper is published, n that assessors tend to over-rate papers published in journals with high #impactfactor:
:doi: https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pbio.1001675
Perhaps I'm being subjective, but I suspect that in the field of #scientometrics, scientists could more correctly evaluate articles without even knowing the journals in which they were published.

Citation patterns:
“The present study shows a dissociation in psychology journals between the citation patterns of theoretical and empirical journals in psychology, with theoretical journals typically exhibiting growth in citations over time and empirical journals experiencing a rapid peak followed by a plateau.”
