Another way to invest and take part in the life of such #coop companies is to join an #impactInvestment club. In #France, #CIGALES (=cicadas #JeanDeLaFontaine) organises a networkk of such clubs: 10 to 15 people pool 20-100€/month and join investment meetings where would-be #entrepreneurs present their projects. A club typically invest €2k per project for 5 years, helping the start-up to get more funding from banks and public investors.
Club members also give of their time when useful.

One can also engage (even with limited personal funds) into #impactInvestment in #coop sector companies that act on #sustainable alternatives. Some national regulations make it easier than others, in #France there are a few good things. I'd be happy to hear about their counterparts elsewhere.

I am not sure whether media in the US can apply (the philantropic landscape in the US is really developed), but besides funding they offer excellent advice for media.

PD: For wealthy folks with the knowledge that their money could do better, the media development fund also offers the possibility of impact investment.

I think it is (was?🤞🏻) an unhealthy use of social media for me, constant refreshing/scrolling, jonesing for the latest snort of indignation or triumph the top mainstream press coverage pushed. The other thing Twitter gave us though was niche news (for me, #ElSalvador , #Baltimore , #Defi, #capitalism critique, #economicdemocracy , #socialenterprise , #history , #firstnations , #impactinvestment + even tinier subsets/intersections of these)…

By 2010, we have built ourselves a mission of housing, hiring & training folks recovering from #addiction & #incarceration.

Around 2012 I hear a story on #NPR, about a movement, called #socialenterprise. Oh, I says to me, that's what *we're* doing. & oh yeah damn right, this is really hard & we're bleeding! I study up, learn about hybrid #socent structures & #impactinvestment, found a 501c3. By 2018 I'm heading to accelerators like #REDF & #SantaClaraU.

For #VT folks, the "Invest in #Vermont series is shaping up to be quite interesting.

The private equity peeps who did a Vermont Investors Summit didn't do one in 2020, so I conspired with a few folks at the local community foundation to put on a virtual version that *just happens* to include several sessions on alternative and solidarity economy investing. :blobhyperthink:

...the amount of time their capital has been in the fund. So, for instance, if I invest $50 in y1, and someone else invests $100 in y2, then, at the end of y2, each investor would get 50% of the return, because they each have 100 dollar years.

Still wrapping my head around all the implications, but it's quite the novel approach, and I'm curious to see if any of the other #coops nerds on here have thoughts.
