For #MeteoriteMonday, I bring you this superb specimen of Libyan Desert Glass (LDG).
LDG was created by an ancient #meteorite impact in what is now the Egyptian and Libyan Sahara - this fused the remnants of the vaporized meteorite with the silica-rich material in the impact zone. This process produced tons of LDG fragments which were scattered across a wide area.
Technically, LDG is not a meteorite. It is a #tektite or #impactite, but it is prized by meteorite collectors.
