Whenever hits, I feel like a villain in my own story. 🙎‍♀️

Especially when I remember the that a scheduling conflict in high school led to me picking computer science and physics over biology and computer science.

(a bioinformatics degree was what I was actually lining myself up for, *gestures at self* and look at what I'm doing now)

@lorddimwit Is this just another attempt to support my complex and remind me that nobody can understand without many years studying for the CS degree?

I've been having this thought about -syndrome for a while now but never bothered to share it 'cause I don't know how to do social media 🙂 So now I'll try it.

While I do understand the basics behind impostor syndrome, and the human need for validation, I believe that validation, which seems to be the primary way most people threat each to overcome it, is the wrong approach. A more honest-with-themsel approach is to rationalise it and understand that whatever you are doing that makes you feel an impostor has most likely been decided by someone else, and therefore is on them and not on you. What is left for you is to admit whether or not you have fooled someone 🙂

To quote Feynman, who apparently also had a brief moment feeling an impostor before impostor syndrome was cool:

> It was a brilliant idea: You have no responsibility to live up to what other people think you ought to accomplish. I have no responsibility to be like they expect me to be. It’s their mistake, not my failing.

Noted seditionist leader and closeted masculinity crisis sufferer Josh Hawley, who lives in Virginia but pretends to live in Missouri, is having a little trouble making a football bet against Ohio's JD Vance.

"KC Joe's" is actually called "Joe's Kansas City." It has three locations, and all of them are in Kansas. Not Missouri.

Do you suffer from Impostor Syndrome? Kate Arms from Embracing Intensity interview

Podcast episode

"Impostor syndrome is something that most people have felt at some point or another. Intense people may feel this in magnified ways, as the world tells them they are not welcome as they are."

I'm in a remote right now and this dude's talking about and talk about . I mean I AM an - always have been. It's what the likes of me are by definition. But my gods, sometimes it rattles, you know?

This guy's talking about contracts and he seems to know what he's talking about. I haven't a clue - but then if it's not the sort of where you have to specify the phase of the Moon or some such thing then I just don't get them.

Cela faisait bien 15 ans que je n'avais pas autant eu ce genre de choc, surtout à cette intensité. Cela fait à la fois du mal & du bien.

Situation: I'm working on a proposal where, from a 10kft view, one of the things I want to address and improve on is (e.g.) "reusable components" or "better abstractions" for some class of functionality in a software system where there already exist a handful of commonly-used options. As a result, I'm reviewing recent related work (presentations, papers, tutorial materials), and the developers of those materials claim that their option embodies those features (e.g. "reusable and good abstractions").

I'm having a hard time reconciling my intuitive understanding of perceived inefficiencies with the authors' claims, and I'm skeptical of both 1) dismissing their claims on the basis of my intuition being somehow more valid and 2) dismissing my intuition on account of being naive and less experienced than the authors.

...Ok, having written this out I'm feeling like the actual problem is that I haven't defined my problem well enough. But since we're here I'll at least ask, is there a name for this kind of thought pattern?
