draft - an instance of mastodon that has an open search
don't get me wrong, i understand some or even maybe many existing mastodon instances don't want to change their search function and keep relying on hashtags, and that's fine. but that doesn't mean, especially considering mastodon / activitypub enables it, is that, we can't build a new *instance* that *does* have a better search function, WITH a twitter circle equivalent that would still enable privacy within an open search system

also, the problem with hashtags is you can't have a space in a hashtag. i guess you could do an underscore, but now we're just making it more and more needlessly complicated to search and find things. and don't get me wrong, i understand some or even maybe many existing mastodon instances don't want to change their search function and keep relying on hashtags, and that's fine, i guess. but that doesn't mean, especially considering mastodon / activitypub enables it, is that, we can't build a new *instance* that *does* have a better search function, WITH a twitter circle equivalent that would still enable privacy within an open search system

draft - an instance of mastodon that has an open search twitter has circle posts which are relatively private or even 100 percent private if a user chooses to have nobody in the circle. can't a mastodon instance with open search have a twitter circle equivalent?

draft - is there an instance of mastodon that has an open central search function - I get that many communities don't want it by design, but there has to be many communities that *do* want it by design.

Suggestion for #ImprovingMastodon : a button that keeps you logged but gives you what you'd see if you were an outsider. Some of us don't like browser password managers (maybe i'll adapt tho)
I really need to have a clutter-free Home timeline, so I keep a very small Follows list. In order to follow more people on the sly you can
-- append .rss to the URL of the person you want to follow and use a feed reader
- or, on your web browser, bookmark something like
MyInstanceURL/@MyHero@HisInstanceURL
@teixi Yes, I know search is currently not full text. We discussed that earlier, in which I suggested mechanisms for safe full text search.

Good discussion of a mega server hosted by Google. I agree with this toot saying it's inevitable unless the Mastodon governance structure creates prohibitions against it: https://mastodon.social/@Fluzbug/109315541652290270
Sigh. Another client button to wish for: a thread button that automatically unlists the reply to your own toot.
Thanks for the positive feedback on my suggestions for safe QT and safe FTS.
Here's my manual workaround for the lack of Quoted Toots (QTs):
1. Copy link to original post (OP).
2. Click Reply on OP.
3. In the edit box, insert link on 1st line and 👆(indicating "see toot above") on second line.
4. Then enter your commentary in the edit box.
5. Click Publish!
6. Click Boost on the OP.
The result on your profile page (Posts and replies) will look like this:
